Benzocaine/Lidocaine/Tetracaine Topical Cream

BLT (Benzocaine/Lidocaine/Tetracaine) cream consists of 3 pharmaceutical drugs that are combined and used topically as local anesthetics.

The most common formulation by prescription, includes but is not limited to, Benzocaine 20%/ Lidocaine 6% / Tetracaine 4% in a cream base. Benzocaine, lidocaine and tetracaine are more likely than other local anesthetics to cause contact sensitization.  The cream is most used by physicians before dermatological procedures (ex. Botox, Morpheus, Laser, Fillers, Peels, Microneedling).

The cream is dispensed in a light resistance airless pump (100ml or 250ml) with a metered dose pump of 1ml.

Active Ingredient

  • Benzocaine is a commonly used anesthetic that has a very fast onset of action and is generally well-tolerated. It works by inhibiting voltage-dependent sodium channels on neuron membranes.

  • Lidocaine is a commonly used topical anesthetic, with an onset of action of about four minutes. It works by blocking sodium channels to stop local neurons from signaling the brain.

  • Tetracaine is another topical anesthetic. It is longer acting but also takes longer to work than lidocaine. It works by changing the function of ryanodine receptors that control the release of intracellular calcium.
